Compositions

Gerard Isaac Wong’s compositional work reflects his interest in sacred music, musical storytelling, and the relationship between music and faith. Drawing on his experience as an organist and pianist, he explores ways of expressing spiritual themes through original musical works, bringing together musical craftsmanship, devotional expression, and the traditions of sacred music.

His compositions include music written for ecclesiastical occasions and collaborative projects, with a particular interest in creating works that serve both artistic expression and the life of the Church. Through these works, he seeks to contribute to the continuing development of sacred music, placing new compositions in dialogue with an established musical and spiritual tradition.

"Our Hands, His Plans"

Original Composition | 2026

Written for the 180th-anniversary celebrations of St Joseph’s Church, Bukit Timah, Our Hands, His Plans is an original sacred composition that takes the form of a musical dialogue between St Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The work reflects on faith, trust, and surrender to God’s providence, forming part of the wider musical project My Hands, His Plans, developed for the parish’s anniversary celebrations.

The composition was subsequently performed by Gerard Wong at the Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore’s Bi-Annual Dinner on 22 August 2026, where it formed the concluding work of a programme presented in collaboration with Stella Æterna Consort. Performed by Gerard at the piano alongside mezzo-soprano Esther Jong, the work brought an original contemporary composition into a programme that also featured sacred repertoire by Franz Schubert and George Frideric Handel.
