About Gerard Isaac Wong

ORGANIST  |  PIANIST   |  COMPOSER

Gerard Isaac Wong is a Singapore-based organist, pianist, and composer whose musical experience spans classical, sacred, contemporary, jazz, rock, musical theatre, and opera. His multidisciplinary practice encompasses performance, accompaniment, and original composition across varied musical settings. While his current work is centred on sacred and liturgical repertoire, his broader musical background continues to inform his interest in diverse genres and forms of musical expression.

Gerard holds ABRSM Grade 8 qualifications in Organ Performance and Piano Performance, both with Distinction, as well as Grade 8 Music Theory. He is currently working toward the Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO) diploma. His musical development has included formal studies, private instruction, masterclasses, and practical experience in church, concert, and collaborative settings.

His experience as an organist includes liturgical accompaniment, recital performance, and engagement with sacred repertoire by composers including J. S. Bach, Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Eugène Gigout, Henri Mulet, Marcel Dupré, and Louis Vierne. In October 2024, he was commissioned to travel to Shanghai to record approximately 60 hymns and organ instrumental works for Shanghai's St Ignatius Cathedral’s digital organ database. He has also performed organ repertoire at cathedral venues in China, including St Michael’s Cathedral in Qingdao and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Beijing, where he performed on its Casavant pipe organ.

His recital experience in Singapore includes guest-organist appearances at the Church of St Teresa and the Church of St Vincent de Paul, as well as organ performances with Stella Æterna Consort. In August 2026, he presented a private recital at St Teresa featuring J. S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Dorian), BWV 538, and appeared as guest organist at A Night of Sacred Music Concert 2026 at St Vincent de Paul, performing Bach’s BWV 578 and Louis Vierne’s Finale from Symphony No. 1. He also performed Bach’s BWV 630 and Eugène Gigout’s Toccata in B minor during an interlude in Stella Æterna Consort’s Easter concert in May 2026.

As a pianist and keyboardist, Gerard has accompanied choirs, soloists, church musicians, and community ensembles in Singapore and overseas. His experience includes weddings, funerals, Masses, seasonal celebrations, choral programmes, Filipino Catholic community events, private functions, and band engagements. During a period based in London from late 2024 to early 2025, he undertook freelance keyboard and organ work for church and community events, including Filipino Catholic celebrations and seasonal performances.

Composition is an increasingly important part of Gerard’s musical practice. In 2026, he wrote Our Hands, His Plans for the 180th-anniversary celebrations of St Joseph’s Church, Bukit Timah. Dedicated to St Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary, the work is conceived as a musical dialogue between the two figures, reflecting on faith, trust, and surrender to God’s providence. It was premiered at the parish’s anniversary dinner and subsequently performed at the Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore’s Bi-Annual Dinner in August 2026.

Through his work across organ, piano, voice, and composition, Gerard continues to develop a musical practice that combines formal study, practical musicianship, collaboration, and creative exploration. His current focus remains sacred and liturgical music, while his broader experience continues to shape his approach to repertoire, performance, and original work.
